High Efficiency Oil Boilers:

Oil-fired boilers are a great alternative when considering energy efficiency. With such high efficiency ratings, so much so at a minimum of 85%, oil boilers are considered to be one of the most efficient ways to heat your home as they can save you a lot of money when it comes to your residential heating bill.

What is an Oil-fired Boiler?

Every boiler requires fuel to function, and in this case, an oil-fired boiler requires oil as a means to operate. That being said, once the oil is ignited within the combustion chamber, a heat exchanger then warms up the cold water. This either comes from a cold-water tank (in a conventional system), or from the mains in a combi system.

How does it Work?

An oil boiler works a lot in the same way as a gas boiler does in the sense that the boiler uses the oil to create hot water. Once the water is hot, it is then pumped around the house reaching the radiators, which then create the warmth to heat up the whole house. An oil boiler aside from heating the house also heats the tap water in the bathrooms and kitchen.

One important factor to consider when looking into installing an oil boiler is the life expectancy that comes with it. So on average, how long does an oil boiler last?

An Oil boiler tends to last anywhere between 10 to 15 years, which is similar to the life expectancy of a water heater. To try to exceed those odds, Advanced Boilers & Hydronic Heating suggests to maintenance your boiler on an annual basis in an attempt to increase efficiency, productivity, and the longevity in your boiler’s lifespan. With annual maintenance care, you are also giving your boiler an opportunity to tighten any loose hinges, stabilize any inconsistencies, and in general contributing to the overall health and life of your boiler.

Is there Stability in the Future of Oil Boilers?

While fossil fuels in general are being phased out with the entering of renewable and sustainable heating sources, this does not mean there is an end of oil boilers on the horizon. With low-carbon biofuels currently in development, this will partially replace traditional oil heating, as we know it, as early as 2022.
