Electric Boiler Basics

How it Works:

Electric boiler repairs are similar to those powered by natural gas. The varying difference between the two is that an electric boiler eschews any combustion when creating heat, rather than using several heating elements to warm the water circulated the house. With a gas boiler, the heat exchanger stops over the flames of the burner assembly. Water flows through the heat exchanger, heated by the fire below, before funneling the heat into the house. That said, electric boilers differ, specifically with the heating elements inside the heat exchanger with the water supply. The system runs an electrical current through the wires; there is a met resistance, which causes the coils to heat up. Before distribution throughout the house, the the-hot heating elements heat the water in the heat exchanger.

Why Install an Electric Boiler?

One of the many reasons for preference in electric boilers versus the various other options for all heating systems is the efficiency one gets when choosing to go with an electric boiler. Compared to natural gas, electricity often is more expensive when as a fuel type. Natural gas heaters tend to vent a ton of heat out of the house in combustion gases, which are useless to the overall heating system and can be quite dangerous to the homeowner. A benefit in choosing an electric boiler is that electric boilers do not combust fuel. Coincidentally almost all of the heat generated goes directly into the water used to heat the house. In the long run, electric boilers require less maintenance given that there a lack of moving parts compared to those of a combustion heater.
